How Did This Program Come to Monroe County?
Following the destructive July storms, PMAR began looking for ways REALTORS® could help local residents with their recovery.
With assistance from Monroe County Commissioner John Christy, PMAR connected with Maryellen Keegan and the Monroe County Office of Emergency Management to better understand the extent of residential damage and the needs that remained in the community.
While other recovery resources were being pursued, there remained a need for direct housing assistance for local residents.
That’s where the REALTORS® Relief Foundation came in.
PMAR applied to RRF for disaster relief funding and was approved for $50,000 to assist eligible residents throughout Monroe County.
Today, PMAR is administering the local application process, with the continued support of our community partners and REALTOR® members helping us make sure this resource reaches the residents who need to know about it.
About the REALTORS® Relief Foundation
The REALTORS® Relief Foundation (RRF) was created following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks when REALTORS® came together to help families affected by the tragedy.
For 25 years, the Foundation has provided housing-related assistance to families following disasters throughout the United States and its territories.
RRF has provided more than $52 million in disaster relief, supported more than 228 disaster recovery efforts, and helped more than 30,000 families.
One of the things that makes RRF especially meaningful is that 100% of every dollar donated goes directly to disaster relief. The National Association of REALTORS® covers the Foundation’s administrative expenses.
The Monroe County relief program continues that tradition right here at home, with REALTORS® helping neighbors recover when disaster strikes.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much assistance can I receive?
Eligible households may receive up to $1,000 through the program.
Is this money for home repairs?
RRF provides housing-related disaster assistance. Eligibility and documentation depend on your circumstances. The program is not a general reimbursement program for all storm-related losses or repair expenses.
Does my home have to have physical damage?
Qualifying homeowners and renters must have physical damage to their primary residence.
I lost power for several days. Do I qualify?
A power outage by itself does not qualify. Expenses such as food spoilage or damaged appliances resulting from a power outage are not eligible.
My shed, detached garage or other structure was damaged. Does that qualify?
Damage only to unattached structures such as detached garages, sheds, barns or pavilions does not qualify. There must be qualifying damage to the primary dwelling or an eligible attached structure.
Can renters apply?
Yes, in certain circumstances. Renters who were displaced and incurred qualifying new rental or hotel/Airbnb expenses may qualify. A renter whose residence was damaged but who was not displaced does not qualify under this program.
Can I apply if this is my second home or vacation home?
No. Assistance is for an eligible applicant’s primary residence.
Do I need to be working with a REALTOR® to apply?
No. You do not need to be a PMAR member, REALTOR® client or have any relationship with a REALTOR® to qualify.
REALTORS® are simply helping residents access the program.
Can I apply online?
No. You may download the application and documentation checklist online, but applications are not submitted through the website.
You can submit your application through PMAR or receive assistance from a local REALTOR®.
What if I can’t physically get to the PMAR office?
Call PMAR at 570-424-8846. We can discuss options for getting your application completed and submitted, including assistance from a trained local REALTOR® volunteer.
Does PMAR decide whether I receive the grant?
PMAR performs the local application and documentation review. Applications are then submitted to the REALTORS® Relief Foundation, which retains final approval authority.
When is the deadline?
Applications must be submitted by September 16, 2026, subject to the availability of funds.
Because assistance is being provided on a first-come, first-served basis, residents are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
What if I’m not sure whether I qualify?
Contact us.
We would rather help you understand the application requirements than have you decide on your own that you shouldn’t apply.
